Introducing the Elan for student performance.

Dr. Bradley Garner

“Students, even beginning students need and deserve the advantages of a professional handmade headjoint. With the introduction of the “Elan” headjoint, we have changed the game and made it much easier for every young player to play better in tune and progress faster in their never ending effort at being the best flutist they can be.”

“After years of research, we developed the “Elan” headjoint. It was created in order to help improve the young flutist’s intonation and ease in playing. This headjoint has all of the playing characteristics of our precious metal models and it is affordable.  It works in your current flute and immediately, you will experience improved intonation and playing characteristics.”

Michael Geoghegan

“No other maker has ever brought the quality, dimensions and performance of a professional handmade headjoint to the beginning and intermediate student. All of our headjoints are made to the same exacting standards regardless of the material that they are made of. The “Elan” headjoint is not made of a precious metal but it performs as if it were. Now all the performance benefits that the professional flutist enjoys with a Garner headjoint are available to the beginning and intermediate flute student.”

Dr. Gary Garner on The Elan headjoint

I’ve been battling the flute-intonation wars for a good many decades now, both as a player and as a band director.  In particular, the infamous sharp C# in the staff and most of the third octave have been nightmarish problems for both players and conductors.

The situation was much improved with the introduction of the Cooper scale in the 1960s, but there were still problems aplenty.  Most of us just concluded “that’s the way it is and we just have to live with it,” making adjustments as best we could, some more successfully than others.

But then, the most amazing thing happened:  The “Elan” headjoint.  Even more amazing to me is that it was invented by my son Brad and Michael Geoghegan who were not satisfied with the traditional headjoints that were being made.  After years of experimentation and endless tweaking, they produced a headjoint that virtually eliminates all those previously intractable problems, something I would never have imagined possible. It still requires proper embouchure and use of air, of course, but having played on one for a few years now, and seen what results it produces with students of all levels of advancement, I can confidently say that it’s nothing short of miraculous.

This headjoint turned my 1960 Rudall Carte into a totally different instrument. Strong low notes and a completely in tune and well balanced flute all the way. Thank you.

I recently purchased the Elan Headjoint for my Yamaha YFL-581H flute. What a difference it has made! I feel that my tone quality is richer, technical passages and soft dynamics are easier, and I am now more in tune when I rehearse with my community band. Thank you.

I bought this headjoint for use with a late-1970’s Armstrong Emeritus flute. It provides a strong, resonant tone throughout the range of the instrument, and it is easier to control pitch and dynamics, especially in the very high and low ranges. This headjoint is especially nice for solo work. I am very pleased with my purchase.
